Diabetes And Strokes
In the debilitating disease of diabetes, often there are complications that develop on the side. Perhaps you know that diabetes can develop due to one of two reasons, a lack of insulin or the inability to use it correctly. The excess glucose in the blood results in a condition called hyperglycemia. This is often a precursor to heart attacks and strokes. People with diabetes are twice as likely to have a heart attack or/and stroke that other people.
There are some things diabetics can do to combat the risk of heart attack and stroke. One is to reduce central obesity. This is because apart from diabetes, central obesity itself increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Abdominal fat results in an increase in bad cholesterol twice as much as does fat in other areas of the body.
Monitoring cholesterol is essential for diabetics, even more so than for other people. Hypertension is another condition that people with diabetes should beware of. This also leads to heart attacks and strokes. Although maintaining low central obesity, watching weight and cholesterol and controlling hypertension are important for everyone, they are all the more important for diabetics. This is why careful management of the disease and regular checkups are always advised.
