Why Diabetes Occurs

The illness called diabetes occurs when the blood sugar level cannot be kept in check by the body. It is characterised by the inability of insulin to keep the blood sugar level in check resulting in hyperglycemia or high blood sugar

If you have diabetes, you may have either Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes rarely occurs if you are beyond your mid twenties. It is also known as autoimmune disorder. The cells in the body that produce insulin are destroyed as the body thinks that they are harmful. This results in a situation where the insulin has to be artificially replaced throughout the life.

Adult onset diabetes or Type 2 diabetes usually occurs after thirty. This condition is cause by resistance to insulin. More insulin is needed by the body for producing glucose or perhaps the insulin is less effective in converting the glucose to glycogen. One common reason cited for this condition is obesity. A common mixture of reasons for this condition also include – heredity, unhealthy eating habits, inadequate exercise.

The third type of diabetes occurs during pregnancy due to hormonal changes and heredity. It is called gestational diabetes.

Whatever the type of diabetes, usually living a healthy life and using common sense can help you combat this debilitating illness.
