The Connection Between Diabetes And Depression
Research has revealed that diabetics are more likely to suffer from depression that non diabetics. Although the research has failed to shed light on the reasons for the diabetes-depression link, there are two areas blamed for the depression in diabetics.
One reason thought to be responsible is the thought process that follows after being diagnosed with depression. A diagnosis of this sort for any other disease could also cause depression logically speaking. The normal course of events is that after the diagnosis there is a temporary onset of depression. If the depression seems to be more permanent, then a doctor should be consulted.
The day to day stress associated with diabetes and its management can cause depression as well. The feeling of non-normalcy is one very important factor in promoting this depression. Symptoms of depression warrant immediate consultation with your doctor. The major symptoms are sleep changes, guilt, fatigue, lack of appetite and energy as also suicidal thoughts.
As important as it is to control your diabetes, it is equally important to keep your mind healthy and happy. Only then can your truly combat your diabetes and make life worth it.
